About us

Women-, Immigrant-, Locally Owned & Operated
Meet Veronica, a vegan with a simple mission to promote the plant-based lifestyle in her community. Having experience as an Operations Manager within the food industry, she is able to run a business that understands the importance of food safety, food production, good manufacturing practices, and, above all else, is ethical.
What does canela mean?
Being from Mexico, Veronica named her small business after a key ingredient: cinnamon (in Spanish). She brings a taste of Mexican flavour to her recipes and products.
Made right here in Calgary
Canela started in Veronica's daughter's kitchen as a simple recipe of vegan cinnamon rolls. It later turned into a farmer's market business where everything was baked in a home oven with a small rolling pin. Eventually, Canela grew and became a staple for the YYC vegan community. We are so happy to share our success and pastries with our lively and lovely clientele.
